First announcement of a HEFCE and HE Academy supported event:

Tomorrow’s Sustainable University Conference

The conference theme is to address the sustainable university of tomorrow - what will it be like and how do we get there. Focusing on issues around  strategic vision and change, curriculum and teaching and virtualisation, these key themes will be set in the context of imminent and potential long-term HE funding cuts.

Key themes:

  • The virtual university? - Does sustainability require major adaptation of the 600 year higher education model of face-to-face interaction in buildings to take advantage of the lighter footprint and potential learning advantages of next generation digital technologies? Implications for pedagogy and the student experience?
  • Bottom up, Top Down, Side on? - Theory and evidence of institutional strategic change for sustainable development?
  • Sustainability in an age of frugality ? What are the implications of HE cuts on embedding sustainable development into HE
  • Beyond modules - What are the best means for achieving Programme, Faculty and Institutional curriculum change?
  • The student experience - do students really want sustainable development, and what are the best methods of building and maintaining their interest?
  • Greening STEM - does this require different approaches to other areas of ESD and what are the best methods of engaging the STEM academics and students?
